Men’s Golf Takes Lead at IWU Invite

Castro in second-place on the individual leaderboard

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team took the lead in the opening round of the IWU Invite Friday, April 3 at the par-72, 6,940-yard Ironwood Golf Course. Following an opening round of seven-under 281, the Titans lead by nine over the 41-team field.

Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) led the way for the Green and White, as his four-under par back-nine score of 32 propelled him to an opening round 68. Castro currently holds a share of second-place on the individual leaderboard.

Seniors Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) and Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) also sit in the top-10, as the classmates carded matching two-under par 70s and currently share sixth-place.

The Titan 'A' squad, who finished seven-under par for the day (281), holds a nine stroke advantage over the Gustavus Adolphus 'B' team who carded a score of 290. Carleton sits in third-place with a three-over 291, while Nebraska Wesleyan is in fourth-place with a score of 293.

Tomorrow's round is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start, as the Titans will tee off at Weibring Golf Club.
