Flag Football Returns Home for Second Triangular

Titans host Rockford and Marian

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University flag football team returns home to Tucci Stadium Sunday, April 19 for its second home triangular. IWU (8-4) hosts Rockford University at 12:30 p.m. and Marian University at 2 p.m. Marian (5-3) and Rockford (3-6) take the field at 3:30 p.m. for a neutral site bout. 

The Titans are coming off of a 1-1 day at the Benedictine University Flag Fest where they defeated Rockford, 33-7, and fell to the College of Dupage, 13-0. 

Against the Regents, freshman Maylin Nunez (Chicago, Ill.-Taft) led the IWU offense with 16 completed passes on 22 attempts, good for 206 yards through the air. Nunez threw for four touchdown passes on just one interception. She also led the Titans in rushing yards with 23 on 10 attempts. 

Freshman Deanna Cirebea (Bartlett, Ill.-Bartlett) was the Titans top receiver with 90 yards of offense and two touchdowns. Freshman Lily Greenfield (Lindenhurst, Ill.-Lakes Community) also had two touchdowns in the game with 57 yards of offense on four receptions. Freshman Natalyia Stallings (Rockford, Ill.-Guilford) had the longest reception of the game at 44 yards. 

On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Nakilah Mason (Chicago, Ill.-Chicago Military Academy) had a career-high 11 flag pulls, including three for a loss. 

Against COD, Nunez led with 94 passing yards along with 28 rushing yards. Cirebea reeled in 12 catches for 80 yards. Defensively, Mason led with six flag pulls while Stallings hauled in three interceptions.

Sunday will mark the second meeting of the season between IWU and Marian. The Sabres took down the Titans, 12-0, Sunday, March 22. Marian scored once in the second quarter and again in the fourth while limiting IWU to 146 yards of total offense.
