Men’s Lacrosse Faces Foresters in Road Contest

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will make the trip to Lake Forest College for a battle with the Foresters (2-2) Saturday, March 7. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Farwell Field. 

The Titans (3-2) enter the game off a dominant, 15-3, win over Benedictine University Thursday night, March 5. Junior Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) led the team with five points by way of four assists and a goal. Freshman Holden Webster (Centennial, Colo.-Arapahoe) and sophomore Jeremy Langosch (Grayslake, Ill.-Warren Township) each led the team with three goals, both establishing new career-highs. Timothy McHugh and freshman Tyce Baldwin (Aurora, Colo.-Grandview) tied for the team-lead in ground balls with five apiece, while Baldwin led the defense with five caused turnovers. Senior Michael Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) notched a team-best seven faceoff wins, going 7-of-15 on the night. Senior Sam Scott (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) led the team with four assists in the final 15 minutes of action.

Junior Jake Kahoun (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) and Timothy McHugh are tied for the team-high in points five games into the season, as each has totaled 13. Kahoun's come on a team-best 12 goals and one assist, while Timothy McHugh leads the way with seven assists and second on the squad with six goals. Langosch and Webster are tied for third on the team with six points apiece. Langosch's five goals are the third-most, while Webster has four scores to go along with two assists. 

As a team, the Titans have scooped up 249 ground balls, the seventh-most in Division III, while their average of 49.80 per contest ranks sixth nationally. Sophomore Jaymeson Zackery (Saint Paul, Minn.-Eastview) leads the way with 23, closely followed by 22 from senior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community). Timothy McHugh rounds out the top three with 17 ground balls on the year. 

IWU also ranks top-10 in caused turnover per game, as its average of 19.40 is fourth in the country. Senior Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) leads the team with 15 forced miscues, while his average of three per game sits 18th nationally and leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Baldwin is second with 10, followed by Zackery's nine. 

At the X, Rocco leads the team, having gone 43-for-74 this season. The senior owns a .581 win percentage on the season. Sophomore Matt Arnold (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) has added a 24-of-46 showing, good for a .522 win percentage. 

In goal for the Green and White, Zackery holds a team-high in saves with 50 over the span of 285 minutes. The sophomore enters Saturday with a 3-2 record and a .515 save percentage. Scott has recorded the remaining 15 minutes, making four saves with a perfect save percentage.

Illinois Wesleyan will meet Lake Forest on the field for the first time. The Foresters enter off a 12-6 loss to Elmhurst University Wednesday, March 4.
