Women’s Hoops NCAA Tournament Begins in Holland Regional

Titans to face Washington & Jefferson Friday, March 6

INDIANAPOLIS - Winners of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament, the No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball team will make the program's 17th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance as part of the Holland, Mich. regional hosted by Hope College according to the full field unveiled by the NCAA Monday, March 2. The Titans will battle Washington & Jefferson College Friday night, March 6, with No. 9 Hope and Penn State University Behrend squaring off in the other opening round bout. The Titans will play at 6 p.m. ET to open the weekend, followed by the Hope-Penn St.-Behrend contest at 8:30 p.m. ET Friday, March 6. Winners will meet at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday night, March 7.

Illinois Wesleyan is one of 43 automatic bids in the 64-team field. IWU, Co-CCIW Regular Season Champions, outlasted No. 12 Carroll in overtime in the title game, 74-70, Feb. 28, to claim the program's 12th league tournament title.

The Green and White compiled a 5-5 record against teams in the field this season. IWU notched two wins over Carroll along with victories against WashU, Bethel, and UW-La Crosse. Entering the tournament with a 22-5 record, all five losses have come to teams playing in March. The Titans dropped an overtime game at Hope, while also falling to Wisconsin Lutheran, UW-Whitewater, Chicago, and Carroll.

The winner of this weekend's pod will advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Sectional action is slated for Friday-Saturday, March 13-14, with the site to be determined based on this weekend's outcomes. The national semifinal and championship games will be contested at the Cregger Center in Salem, Va. Thursday-Saturday, March 19-21.
