Men’s Volleyball Faces St. Norbert in Non-Conference Finale

Titans take on Green Knights at 2:30 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Escaping College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play briefly, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team will welcome St. Norbert College to Shirk Center Friday, March 20, for its last non-conference match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The Titans (17-4, 5-1 CCIW) have enjoyed the last week off after reverse sweeping Augustana College Wednesday night, March 11. The win marked the fifth consecutive victory for IWU, marking the longest streak in program history and securing the Green and White its first appearance in the CCIW Tournament. Sophomore Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) led the team with 17 kills, while adding 24 assists, closely following junior Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East). Reutter posted a double-double performance of 26 assists and 12 digs. Senior Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) powered the Titans with four aces and 15 digs, while sophomore Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) notched a team-best four blocks.

Illinois Wesleyan's offense comes into the contest leading the nation in kills per set with an average of 13.38. Leading the way is freshman Aydin Provost (Chicago, Ill.-Mount Carmel) with 242 kills, an average of 3.27 per set. The freshman sits 14 kills off the program's single-season record, held by now-assistant coach Mike Eastman. Eastman had 256 kills across the 2024 campaign. Kuziela follows closely with 238 kills, an average of 3.01 per set, hitting an impressive .335 on the year. Junior Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) rounds out the top-three with 196 kills, an average of 2.84 per set. 

The combo of Kuziela and Reutter have guided the Green and White to the second-best assists per set average in Division III, as the Titans hold a mark of 12.28. Kuziela leads the team with 514 assists, an average of 6.51 per set, and he leads the nation in triple-double performances, having recorded four this season. Reutter sits second with 314 assists, an average of 4.62 per set and is approaching the 1000 career assists mark. The junior comes into the match with 975 career assists, needing 25 to become the second player in program history to eclipse the mark. Kuziela also leads the team in aces with 20, followed by Milka's 19, and 18 from Williams.

Defensively, sophomore Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) leads the way with 219 digs, with his average of 2.77 per set ranking 21st nationally. Kuziela is second with 139 digs, an average of 1.76 per set, while Milka rounds out the top three with 108. With 47 blocks on the season, Kuziela leads the net defense. Freshman Dylan Quinn (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove North) is second with 43 blocks, closely followed by 42 from Rohlwing. 

IWU and the Green Knights (10-11, 3-5 NACC) will meet for the second time, with the Titans taking the inaugural matchup in five sets Feb. 12, 2022. St. Norbert most recently upended Concordia University Chicago in five sets Saturday, March 14.
