Women’s Tennis Defeats Edgewood

Titans pick up ninth win of season

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team defeated Edgewood College, 6-1, Monday, March 16. IWU improves to 9-6, while Edgewood slides to 13-6.

IWU swept the doubles session with the top tandem of juniors Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) coming away with a 7-5 win over Evelyn Taylor and Hattie Plenty. Sophomores Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) and Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) defeated Sophia Perret and Lauryn Krober, 6-3. Freshmen Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood Flossmoor) and Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet) took down Christina Ekkela and Kaitlyn Narkis, 6-2.

In singles play, Lipske earned her first win of the spring break trip with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Plenty at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Van Heuklon edged Perret in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (2). Bell took down Narkis, 7-5, 6-4 at the fourth singles spot. Douglas defeated Ekkela, 6-3, 7-6 at five singles. Religioso improved her singles record to 14-1 with a straight set win over Krober, 6-3, 6-0. 

IWU takes the court again tomorrow, March, 17 against Shippensburg University. First serve is scheduled for 8 a.m. ET.
