Men’s Lacrosse Faces Pfeiffer in Spring Break Conclusion

Titans take on Falcons at 1 p.m. ET

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will conclude its quick spring break trip at Pfeiffer University Tuesday, March 17. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET at Lefko-Mills Field. 

The Titans (5-3) look to get back in the win column after falling at Roanoke College, 18-8, Saturday, March 14. Freshman Holden Webster (Centennial, Colo.-Arapahoe) led the Green and White with three goals for a total of three points. Sophomore Matt Arnold (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) had a career day at the X, finishing with a personal-best 10 faceoff wins after going 10-for-15. A trio of Titans scooped up three ground balls each, while sophomores Nick Donohue (Glenview, Ill.-Glenbrook South) and Ethan Cavanaugh (Davis, Calif.-Davis Senior) led the defense with two caused turnovers apiece. Sophomore Jaymeson Zackery (Saint Paul, Minn.-Eastview) made 15 saves in goal. 

Junior Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) enters the game as the leading scorer for the Titans. The junior has 26 points composed of a team-best 12 assists, and 14 goals, which ranks second on the squad. Junior Jake Kahoun (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) follows with 20 points and leads the team with 17 goals. Webster rounds out the top three point contributors with 15 points, as his 13 goals also ranks third. Sophomore Charlie Burghardt (Milwaukee, Wis.-Brookfield Central) follows Timothy McHugh in the assist column with five helpers. 

With 36 ground balls, Zackery sits atop the team, followed by 29 from senior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community). Timothy McHugh closely follows with 26. Together, the trio help spearhead an IWU team that ranks fifth nationally in ground balls, having scooped up 355 on the season. The Titans rank 11th in Division III in ground balls per game with an average of 44.38.

At the X, senior Michael Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) leads the way with a 65-of-115 showing, good for a .565 faceoff win percentage. Arnold follows with a .506 clip, having gone 43-of-85. 

The Green and White continue to have one of the top defenses in the country, as it sits fourth nationally in caused turnovers per game with an average of 16.75. Leading the way is senior Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) with 19 forced miscues. Freshman Tyce Baldwin (Aurora, Colo.-Grandview) and senior Kaden Gammelgaard (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich) follow with 12 caused turnovers each.

In goal, Zackery has recorded a team-best 92 saves in 450 minutes of action. He brings in a .532 save percentage and 5-3 record into Tuesday's match. 

Illinois Wesleyan will face Pfeiffer (6-2) for the first time in program history. The Falcons enter the contest off a 16-12 win at Southern Virginia University Friday, March 13.
