BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - A six-game spring break trip gets underway Sunday, March 15, as the Illinois Wesleyan University softball team treks to Columbus, Miss. for a twin bill at Mississippi University for Women. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Don Usher Softball Field.

It will be the first all-time meeting for the two teams, with both looking to get back in the win column. The Titans enter their spring break trip sporting a 2-4 record, most recently dropping a 3-1 outing to St. Kate's, March 1. The Owls sit at 4-7 on the season amid a five-game losing skid. All five setbacks came against Millsaps, a team IWU faces later in the week, in a five-game set that spanned Feb. 28 to March 7.

Sophomores Grace Wilkens (Bartlett, Ill.-Bartlett) and Riley McDoniel (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) have led the Titan offense through the early part of the season. Wilkens is hitting a team-best .353 with team-highs of six hits and four runs scored. McDoniel has driven in three runs, the most on the team, and is one of three players with two doubles. Senior Claire Post (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) paces the team with a .421 on-base percentage behind five hits and three walks.

In the circle, Illinois Wesleyan has seen five pitchers log innings. Senior Gianna Certa (Third Lake, Ill.-Grayslake North) tops the team with a 2.92 earned run average of 12 innings of work and is limiting opponents to a .234 batting average. Classmate Caroline Gatchell (Grayslake, Ill.-Carmel Catholic) leads the team with nine strikeouts.

IWU and MUW will square off Sunday beginning with a 1 p.m. first pitch. Links to the live stream as well as live stats can be found on the softball schedule page of iwusports.com.
