Men’s Lacrosse Heads to Roanoke for Spring Break Trip

Titans take on Maroons at 1 p.m. ET

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will open its spring break trip at Roanoke College Saturday, March 14. Titans will take on the Maroons at 1 p.m. ET inside Donald J. Kerr Stadium. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend riding a 15-11 victory over Baldwin Wallace University Wednesday night, March 11. Junior Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) led the offense with eight points, composed of five goals to tie his career-best, and three assists. Senior Micahel Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) went 7-for-15 at the X, while sophomore Jaymeson Zackery (Saint Paul, Minn.-Eastview) tallied the team-lead in ground balls with five. Zackery notched the win in goal behind a career-high 19 saves. 

Timothy McHugh leads the team in points (24) and assists (11), while his 13 goals rank second. Junior Jake Kahoun (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) sits second with 19 points, powered by a team-leading 15 goals. Freshman Holden Webster (Centennial, Colo.-Arapahoe) has made a quick name for himself, working his way to be third on the team with 12 points and 10 goals. Sophomore Charlie Burghardt (Milwaukee, Wis.-Brookfield Central) ranks second on the squad with five assists, while a trio of Titans are tied for third with three helpers apiece.

At the X, Rocco leads the team with a 58-of-102 showing, good for a .569 win percentage. Sophomore Matt Arnold (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) is second, having gone 33-of-70, a .471 win rate. With 33 ground balls, Zackery sits atop the team, closely followed by senior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community) with 28. Timothy McHugh has scooped up 24 on the year. As a team, the Titans rank third nationally in ground balls (328), while their average of 46.86 is good for sixth in Division III.

The Green and White also rank top-10 in the country in caused turnover per game, as its average of 17.57 is fourth. Senior Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) holds the team-high with 18 caused turnovers, followed by 11 from freshman Tyce Baldwin (Aurora, Colo.-Grandview) and senior Kaden Gammelgaard (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich)

With 405 minutes in goal, Zackery paces the team with 77 saves. He enters the weekend with a .542 save percentage and 5-2 record. Senior Sam Scott (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) has recorded the other 15 minutes in between the pipes, making four saves in that time.

Illinois Wesleyan will meet Roanoke (4-1) for the first time in program history. The Maroons enter off an 11-6 win at Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday, March 7.
