Men’s Volleyball Begins Second Half of CCIW Play Against Augie

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Kicking off the second half of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team hosts Augustana College for a midweek match Wednesday, March 11. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Shirk Center.

The Titans (16-4, 4-1 CCIW) enter the match riding a four-game win streak, most recently downing North Park University in straight sets Saturday, March 7. Sophomore Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) led the offense with 12 kills, two aces, and tied for the team-lead in blocks alongside sophomore Wilson Spaulding (Tucson, Ariz.-Catalina Foothills) with three rejections. Junior Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) posted a team-best 18 assists, while sophomore Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) led the defense with 13 digs, tying the program record for most digs in a three-set match. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters the match averaging 13.47 kills per set, the second-most in Division III. Leading the way is freshman Aydin Provost (Chicago, Ill.-Mount Carmel) with 229 kills, an average of 3.32 kills per set. His mark is 27 kills shy of the program's single-season record, set by now-assistant coach Mike Eastman with 259 in the 2024 season. Kuziela is second on the squad with 221 kills, as he is averaging 2.99 kills per set on a .350 clip. Junior Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) rounds out the top three hitters with 185 kills, an average of 2.89 per set. The trio also leads the Titans in aces. Kuziela has a team-best 20 aces, while Provost and Williams are tied for second with 17 kills apiece.

The Green and White also rank top-five nationally in assists per set, as its average of 12.35 sits third. Kuziela and Reutter have orchestrated the majority of the offense all season long, helping the Titans hit .265 on the year, a mark that is 25th in the nation. Kuziela leads the team with 490 assists, an average of 6.62 per set, and leads Division III in triple-doubles with four on the season. Reutter follows with 228 assists, as the junior is averaging 4.57 per set. 

Defensively, Zima leads the team with 210 digs, with his average of 2.84 per set sitting at 18th nationally. Kuziela is second on the squad with 133 digs, an average of 1.80 per set, followed by Williams with 100. Kuziela leads the team in blocks with 44, closely followed by freshman Dylan Quinn (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove North) with 43 rejections. Sophomore Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) sits third on the team with 38 stuffs. 

IWU will take on Augie (8-5, 2-2 CCIW) for the 12th time, with the Vikings holding a 7-4 lead in the series. The Titans won the first meeting this season, taking home a four-set win Wednesday, Feb. 25. Kuziela powered the offense with 31 assists and 14 kills. Zima notched a team-leading 10 digs, while Rohlwing and Spaulding paced the net defense with four blocks apiece. The Vikings most recently fell in straight sets to No. 3 Carthage College Saturday, March 7.
