Men’s Lacrosse to Battle Baldwin Wallace

Titans take on Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Before embarking on its annual spring break trip, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will host Baldwin Wallace University for a non-conference clash Wednesday night, March 11. Action is set for 7 p.m. at Tucci Stadium.

IWU (4-2) comes into the contest off a 14-7 win at Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon, March 7. Junior Nate Pound (Theinsville, Wis.-Homestead) led the team with career-highs of five points and three goals, notching his first collegiate hat trick. Sophomore Charlie Burghardt (Milwaukee, Wis.-Brookfield Central) orchestrated the attack, finishing with a career-high three assists. Sophomore Nick Donohue (Glenview, Ill.-Glenbrook South) powered the defense with career-highs of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Senior Michael Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) finished with the team lead in faceoffs, as he finished with an 8-of-13 showing. Sophomore Jaymeson Zackery (Saint Paul, Minn.-Eastview) got the win in goal, recording eight saves. 

Junior Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel), the reigning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Titans with 16 points. His eight assists are a team-high, while his eight goals sit second. Junior Jake Kahoun (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) follows McHugh with 15 points, led by a team-best 14 goals. Pound rounds out the top three with 10 points on the season. He is tied for third on the team in goals with freshman Holden Webster (Centennial, Colo.-Arapahoe), as each has seven entering Wednesday. Pound and Burghardt follow McHugh in the assists category with three helpers apiece. 

At the X, Rocco has recorded a 51-of-87 showing, good for a .586 win percentage. Sophomore Matt Arnold (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) is second, having gone 31-of-58 on the year, a .534 win percentage. With 295 ground balls and an average of 49.17 per game, Illinois Wesleyan enters the game ranking sixth in both categories in Division III. Leading the way is Zackery with 28 ground balls, followed by 24 from senior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community). Timothy McHugh ranks third with 22. 

The Green and White also sit top-10 nationally in caused turnovers per game, as its average of 19.0 is second. Senior Billy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) leads the way with 17 caused turnovers. Zackery, senior Kaden Gammelgaard (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich), and freshman Tyce Baldwin (Aurora, Colo.-Grandview) are all tied for second with 10 forced miscues apiece. 

In goal, Zackery leads the way with 58 saves over 345 minutes between the pipes. He holds a .518 save percentage and a 4-2 record on the year. Senior Sam Scott (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) has logged 15 minutes, having recorded four saves in the time. 

The Titans will take on Baldwin Wallace (4-2) for the first time in program history. BWU comes to town off a 10-6 win at Grove City College Saturday, March 7.
