Women’s Tennis Wraps Up CCIW Regular Season in Wisconsin

Titans Take on Carroll and Carthage in weekend set

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team heads to Wisconsin for a two-match weekend versus a pair of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foes. The Titans begin in Waukesha against Carroll University, Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11:30 a.m. before heading southeast to Kenosha, Sunday, Oct. 11 for a 10 a.m. match against Carthage College. 

IWU (4-4, 3-3 CCIW) is fresh off of a weekend split, falling to Wheaton College 6-1, Friday, Oct. 2 and closing with a 7-0 sweep of Elmhurst University, Saturday, Oct. 3. Against EU, the Titans only conceded one game, winning 14 sets, 6-0. Freshmen Lexi Burton (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) and Holly Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) each collected their first career singles victories en route to the sweep. 

Carroll (1-5, 1-3 CCIW) fell at North Park University, 5-2, Sunday, Oct. 4. The Pios have won eight of the 14 matches against IWU, including six straight from 2019 to 2024. However,  the Titans won 4-3 last season. IWU swept the doubles slate and got singles victories from then-junior Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), then-freshman Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour), plus the clinching win from then-sophomore Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West). The Pioneers host Millikin University, Friday, Oct. 9 before the Titans come to town.

Carthage (3-2, 3-2  CCIW) came back to defeat North Central, Wednesday, Oct. 10. The match against IWU will be the fourth match in five days for the Firebirds. They travel to Elmhurst, Thursday, Oct. 8 and host Millikin, Saturday, Oct. 10 before IWU visits Sunday. Carthage has won 23 straight against the Titans including a narrow 4-3 win in Bloomington last season. The Firebirds won the doubles point along with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to take a 3-0 lead. IWU got on the board with wins from Religioso on court six and then-freshman Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood Flossmoor) on court five, cutting the margin to 3-2 before the Firebirds clinched the match. Gabi Lipske won on court two to slice the margin down to 4-3.

First serve from Carroll is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Action at Carthage begins at 10 a.m. Results will be available on iwusports.com at the conclusion of the match.
