BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team (2-0) opens its Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin slate at home against North Central College (4-0) at Evergreen Racquet Club Wednesday, Sept. 10. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
In IWU's last match against Illinois College, IWU won all three doubles contests to claim the point. At the top doubles spot, juniors Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill. - Glenwood) and
Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) defeated Alyssa Wise and Clara Bach, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, the sophomore duo of
Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill. - Normal West) and
Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill. - Mundelein) took down Sophie Muir and Lily Ingram, 6-4. Freshmen tandem,
Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill. - Homewood-Flossmoor) and
Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill. - Mahomet) followed with a 6-3 win at the three doubles spot.
In singles play, Illinois College took a 2-1 advantage with victories at the second and third singles spots. Douglas evened the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at five singles over Keefe. Religioso put the Titans ahead with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sabrina Ingram. Ehrlich clinched the match for the Green and White, taking down Wise 6-4, 6-3.
The Cardinals have rattled off nine straight duels against the Titans. Last October, NCC won 7-0. IWU's lone victory came in one of the three doubles matches. Then-sophomore
Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) and Van Heuklon won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles over North Central's Kate Herlihy and Kayla McSweeney 6-2 to start the day for IWU.
After taking down Carroll University 5-2 to open the season, the Cardinals capped off a 3-0 weekend with a 7-0 victory over Millikin University on Saturday before a 7-0 win over Illinois Institute of Technology and a 4-3 triumph over Lake Forest College on Sunday.
