Women’s Tennis Takes on Concordia Chicago in Sunday Matinee

IWU seeks third straight win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team (4-2) shifts back into non-conference play against Concordia University Chicago (0-6) in River Forest, Ill. Sunday, Sept. 28. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the CUC Courts.

In IWU's last dual match at Millikin University, the Titans swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At one doubles, sophomores Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) and Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) defeated Isabella Griffiths and Sarah Parsons, 6-1. Freshmen Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor) and Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet) clinched the doubles point at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0 victory over Kristen Armstrong and Tessa Koehler. The Big Blue forfeited No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, the Green and White swept the six-match slate. Junior Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) took down Griffiths 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles spot. Lipske defeated Addison Ross at two singles 6-1, 6-0. Van Heuklon triumphed over Armstrong with a 6-4 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Junior Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) defeated Parsons 6-3, 6-1 at four singles. Douglas won 6-2, 6-3 over Koehler at five singles, and a forfeit at No. 6 singles completed the sweep.

Last year against the Cougars, the Green and White won all three doubles matches with Van Heuklon and Lipske, Bell Kate Christian, and then-freshmen Angela Zatloka (Justice, Ill. - Argo Community) and then-sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) earning wins.

In singles play, Illinois Wesleyan won all six spots with Ehrlich, Lipske, Van Heuklon, Bell, Edwards and Zatloka claiming victories. 

Concordia Chicago sits at 0-6 in 2025. The Cougars most recently fell to Wartburg College, 7-0, Sunday, Sept. 21. CUC takes on Illinois College Saturday, Sept. 27 before the Titans come to town.
