USILA Scholar All-America Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team saw fifth-year Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) and seniors Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) and Sam Skelton (Portland, Ore.-Franklin) named Scholar All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Tuesday, July 1. Additionally, Illinois Wesleyan was recognized as a recipient of the USILA Team Academic Award.

IWU's three selections were the most in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and tied for the seventh-most across Division III. Overall, the Green and White is one of five conference schools to earn the team award, joining Carroll, Carthage, Elmhurst, and North Central.

In order to be nominated for Scholar All-American status, a student-athlete must be a senior with a grade point average of 3.0-or-better, and have received all-conference accolades. Nominees are then voted on by the organization's Scholar All-American committee.

Black, a two-year captain for the Green and White, was a First Team All-CCIW performer. He notched 46 points on 37 goals and nine assists, while adding 23 ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. He holds the program record for career man-up goals with 36 and sits second all-time with 184 career goals.

Weinberg finished third on the team with 29 goals scored and added 11 assists for a 40-point season. He contributed 34 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers and was a Second Team All-CCIW selection at attack.

A First Team All-CCIW honoree, Skelton played in all 17 games and racked up a team-high 29 caused turnovers. He added 50 ground balls, scored four goals, and was credited with two assists on the year. Skelton concluded his career ranked fourth on the program's single-season caused turnover list (30).

The Titans wrapped up the 2025 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 14-3 overall record. Illinois Wesleyan completed its seventh consecutive undefeated CCIW schedule (4-0) to claim the regular season title, before going on to win its seventh CCIW Tournament Championship with a 16-13 victory over Elmhurst University. IWU led the conference with nine student-athletes earning All-CCIW honors and Zach Iannucci was named the CCIW Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.

IWU has now made seven NCAA postseason appearances in its 12 seasons and even made a run to the Elite Eight in 2021. The Titans finished out the season ranked 21st in ground balls per game (40.35), 35th in caused turnovers per game (11.65), and its scoring offense (14.88) sits 29th nationally.
