Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Elmhurst for CCIW Tournament Title Game

Game time set for noon inside Tucci Stadium

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – For the second straight year, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will welcome Elmhurst University to Bloomington for the championship game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament, Saturday, May 3. Game time is set for a noon start inside Tucci Stadium.

The No. 1 seeded Titans (13-2) enter the title game after staving off No. 4 North Central College in a 15-12 semifinal Wednesday, April 30. Illinois Wesleyan pulled off the win with sophomore Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) leading the way with seven points on four goals and three assists. Fifth-year Ike Eastburn (Colorado Springs, Colo.-Cheyenne Mountain) had four points on a hat trick and an assist, while senior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) had a three-goal game of his own.

On the defensive side, senior goalie Colin Tervo (West Linn, Ore.-West Linn) made 17 saves  to help IWU hold on for the win. Junior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community) had a team-high three caused turnovers along with four ground balls and senior Nick Schroeder (Waunakee, Wis.-Waunakee) went 8-for-17 at the X and scooped a team-best seven ground balls.

No. 2 seed Elmhurst (13-2) produced a dominating 14-5 victory over third-seeded Carthage College in its semifinal game.

IWU is vying for its seventh CCIW Tournament title while Elmhurst, which ranks 20th in the NCAA's most recent NPI rankings, is making only its third appearance in the championship game and is still in search of its first CCIW Tournament title. Both previous championship game appearances for the Bluejays have been against the Titans, with last year's championship ending in a 12-11 overtime thriller in which fifth-year Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) delivered the game-winner off the assist from McHugh.

The Green and White holds a 14-1 advantage in the series record with Elmhurst. After dropping its inaugural meeting with the Bluejays, IWU has not let up, winning 13 consecutive games including its most recent contest, April 19, when the Titans mounted a five-goal comeback for the 12-11 win on the road.

Saturday's CCIW Tournament Championship at Tucci Stadium is set for a 12 p.m. start and will be available via live stats and live stream. Access to both can be found here or on the men's lacrosse schedule page of iwusports.com.
