Women’s Tennis Sees Season End in CCIW Tournament Quarterfinals

Wilson wins final collegiate singles contest

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team saw its 2024-25 season end in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Quarterfinals, as the Titans, the seventh seed in the tournament, fell 4-1 to No. 2 North Park University Thursday afternoon, April 24. Illinois Wesleyan finishes the season 8-12 overall, tying the most wins in a season since the 2012-13 campaign.

IWU put up a fight in doubles action to kick off the match. Sophomores Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) forced a bit of extra tennis in the No. 1 doubles spot, but could not pull off the upset, falling 7-5 to Alexandra Ristfeldt, a First Team All-CCIW honoree, and Katja Carlberg. Amid a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles, seniors Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) and Andie Wilson (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) stayed in a battle against NPU's Maddie Starr and Thea Gifvars when the doubles point was decided in favor of the Vikings.

Competing in her last singles contest of her career, Wilson pulled off the win at No. 6 singles behind set scores of 6-4, 6-1, defeating Ella Darrow. Playing in the No. 5 singles spot, Christian took the first set against Starr, 6-4, and was trailing 5-1 in the second set when the match was decided.

Illinois Wesleyan is set to return seven student-athletes for the 2025-26 season. The match sees the end of Wilson and Christian's careers, both of which have played a crucial role in helping head coach Jason Van Heuklon rebuild the program over the last three years.
