Men’s Volleyball Travels to Loras for CCIW Clash

Titans to face Duhawks twice this week

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After weather postponed the original match from March 5, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team will finally head to No. 11 Loras College Wednesday, April 2 for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Lillis Athletic & Wellness Center.

The Titans (12-10, 2-6 CCIW) enter the battle off a five-set loss at No. 6 Carthage College Saturday, March 29. Sophomore Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) led the team with a 20-kill, 16-dig, double-double performance. Also recording 16 digs, fellow sophomore Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) tallied a team-best 21 assists. Three Titans totaled three blocks in the match.

Williams has led the offense all season, having totaled 218 kills in his sophomore campaign, an average of 2.99 per set. Freshmen Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) are second and third with 150 and 145 kills, respectively, with both averaging over two kills per set. Reutter leads the team with 22 aces, while Williams sits in second with 16, and freshman Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) is third with 10.

The duo of Reutter and senior Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) have been the masterminds of the offense. Reutter leads the team in assists with 386, averaging 4.77 per set, followed by DiCosola's 345, an average of 4.48 per set. 

On the defensive side, Milka has totaled a team-leading 154 digs, an average of 1.88 per set. Williams is second with 138 digs, and Reutter closely follows with 132 to round out the top three. Rohlwing leads the team in blocks with 81 rejections on the season. His average of 1.13 blocks per set ranks fifth nationally and leads the CCIW. Senior Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) is second with 42 blocks, followed by 34 rejections from Reutter.

IWU and Loras (15-4, 6-2 CCIW) will meet on the court for the ninth time, with the Duhawks walking away victorious in the last eight contests. LC took the most recent matchup in straight sets March 20, 2024, with now-assistant coach Mike Eastman leading the offense with nine kills, followed by eight from Williams. DiCosola notched team-highs of 15 assists and four digs.
