BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team is off to its best start to a season in program history as the Titans carry a 5-0 record into Wednesday's game against Wabash College, March 5. Game time inside Tucci Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan's previous best start came during the 2019 season when the Green and White started 4-0. The Titans finished that season 16-2, with its only two losses coming at the hands of then-top-ranked Salisbury early in the season and Rhodes College in the NCAA tournament.

The Titans earned their fifth win of the season in their home opener Saturday, March 1, in a narrow 13-10 contest with Albion College. Senior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) led the team in scoring with six points on a career-high five goals and an assist. Sophomore Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) led the team with five assists. At faceoff, senior Nick Schroeder (Waunakee, Wis.-Waunakee) went 13-for-21. Defensively, senior Sam Skelton (Portland, Ore.-Franklin) had a career day leading the Titans as he tied his career-best of four turnovers and set a new career-high with seven ground balls. Freshman Jaymeson Zachery (Saint Paul, Minn.-Eastview) earned the win in his first collegiate start in goal while recording 13 saves, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Illinois Wesleyan currently ranks ninth in Division III in assists, led by McHugh, who ranks seventh nationally with 4.20 assists per game. The Titans also rank 11th nationally in total points (118), 19th in ground balls (186), and 20th in faceoff winning percentage (.714). Individually, Schroeder ranks 23rd in Division III with a .702 faceoff winning percentage, while fifth-year Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) ranks 21st in man-up goals with three on the season.

Wednesday's game with Wabash will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Wabash brings a 3-1 record to Tucci Stadium after just recently seeing its first loss Saturday, March 1 to Ohio Northern, 14-4.
