Men’s Volleyball Travels to Carthage for Saturday Showdown

First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Tarble Arena

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team remains on the road as the Titans head to No. 6 Carthage College for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin clash Saturday, March 29. Action is set to begin inside Tarble Arena at 3 p.m.

The Green and White enter the contest with a 12-9 record, and are 2-5 in CCIW action. Illinois Wesleyan most recently fell in straight sets at 19th-ranked North Central College Saturday, March 22. Freshman Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) led the offense with 10 kills, doing so on an efficient .500 attack percentage. Senior Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) posted a team-high 14 assists, while the trio of Kuziela, DiCosola, and sophomore Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) each totaled a team-best five digs. Senior Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) led the team with two blocks.

Williams has paced the IWU offense this season with 198 kills on a .214 clip, an average of 2.91 kills per set. Freshman Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) is second with 145 kills, doing so on a .336 attack percentage, followed by Kuziela with 141 kills. Sophomore Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) leads the team with 22 aces, while Williams is second with 16. Freshman Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) sits third with 10 aces on the season.

Defensively, junior Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) leads the team with 147 digs, an average of 1.91 per set. Williams' 122 digs rank second, followed by 116 from Reutter. Rohlwing holds a team-high 81 blocks, and his 1.13 blocks per set average leads the CCIW and ranks sixth nationally. Kougan is second with 39 stuffs, followed by 34 rejections from Reutter.

IWU will face the Firebirds (17-3, 6-1 CCIW) for the 10th time, with Carthage claiming all nine previous meetings. Most recently, CC defeated the Titans in three sets inside Shirk Center Saturday, Feb. 22. The last matchup saw Rohlwing lead the Green and White with eight kills on a .583 clip, while Reutter totaled a team-best 18 assists. Four Titans finished with four digs apiece, and Kougan notched two blocks in the contest. Carthage enters the match off a sweep over No. 13 Loras College Saturday, March 22.
