BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team finishes out its season-opening eight-game roadtrip this Tuesday, March 18, at Monmouth College. First pitch between the Titans and Scots is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Monmouth College Softball Field.

Illinois Wesleyan enters the week with a 4-2 record after a six-game stint in California, March 7-9. The Titans most recently swept a split doubleheader against Case Western and Bethel. IWU defeated Case, 4-2, knocking off the then-No. 2-ranked Spartans, before run-ruling Bethel, 9-1, in five innings. Monmouth is 2-12 on the season and has lost four straight. The Scots will play at home for the first time this season when they host the Titans on Tuesday.

IWU and MC have played 46 times previously ahead of this week's double feature, with the series beginning in 1997. The Green and White leads the series, 41-5, and has won the last 21 meetings with the Scots. Last season, IWU swept a twinbill in Bloomington March 21, 2024. Illinois Wesleyan won the first game 21-2 and completed the sweep with a 7-1 victory.

Senior Jen Kuhn (Normal, Ill.-University High) paces the Titan offense with a team-leading .588 batting average. She tops the team with 10 RBIs, 10 hits, and four doubles. Freshman Bella Pinter (LaMoille, Ill.-Saint Bede Academy), sophomore Hailey Milgazo (Poway, Calif.-Poway), and freshman Grace Wilkens (Bartlett, Ill.-Bartlett) are also hitting north of .300. Pinter is hitting .364, while Milgazo checks in with an average of .353. Wilkens rounds out the group with a .333 clip.

In the circle, Illinois Wesleyan has utilized four different arms this season. Sophomore Mallory Holland (Shelbyville, Ill.-Shelbyville) has posted a 1-0 record over two appearances and 12 innings of work. Holland is holding opponents to a .159 batting average and has one shutout to her name. Freshman Maddie Pool (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton Warrenville South) has thrown 11 innings, going 1-1 in the circle, and leads the team with nine strikeouts. Junior Gianna Certa (Grayslake, Ill.-Grayslake North) leads the team with 14 innings of work and has amassed a 2-0 record. Junior Caroline Gatchell (Grayslake, Ill.-Carmel Catholic) has also earned time in the circle.
