Men’s Volleyball Returns to Action at Augustana

Titans will play first match since March 1

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the first time in two weeks, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team will compete, as the Titans travel to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Augustana College Saturday, March 15. IWU enters the contest with an overall record of 11-7, and is 1-3 in CCIW play, while Augie bears a 10-9 record with an 0-5 mark in conference action. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill. inside Roy J. Carver Center

The Titans, which most recently took on Augie, make their return to the courts after their match with Loras College Wednesday, March 5, was rescheduled due to weather. IWU most recently defeated the Vikings in four sets inside the Shirk Center Saturday, March 1, picking up a crucial CCIW win. The match saw junior Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) erupt for a career-high 19 kills on a .343 attack percentage. The duo of senior Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) and sophomore Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) orchestrated the hot-hitting Illinois Wesleyan offense, which finished with a .303 clip. DiCosola led the team with 25 assists, closely followed by Reutter's 22. DiCosola and freshman Cael Whitchurch (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) each posted a pair of aces. Reutter led the defense with 10 digs, and freshman Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) posted a team-best eight blocks. 

Sophomore Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) has led the Titan offense this season, having recorded 172 kills, an average of 2.97 per set, on a .214 attack percentage. Rohlwing is second with 125 kills, averaging 1.92 per set on an efficient .319 clip. Freshman Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) rounds out the top three hitters with 111 kills on a .258 clip, averaging 2.52 per set. Reutter leads the team with 21 aces, followed by Williams' 14, and 10 from freshman Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South)

Pacing the IWU offense in assists is Reutter, who has accumulated 230 in his sophomore campaign, an average of 4.85 per set. DiCosola closely follows with 264, averaging 4.26 per set. The duo have helped guide the Green and White offense to a .235 attack percentage on the season, averaging 11.72 kills per set and 10.69 assists per set. 

Milka leads the team with 134 digs, as the junior is averaging an even two per set. Reutter and Williams follow with 103 and 102, respectively. Rohlwing leads the team with 75 blocks, and ranks sixth nationally and first in the CCIW with an average of 1.15 blocks per set. Senior Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) sits second with 34 rejections, while Reutter is third with 33. 

IWU and Augie will meet for the 10th time, with the Vikings holding the 6-3 advantage in the series. As previously mentioned, the Titans got the upperhand in the most recent meeting, snapping a two-game losing streak to AC.
