Women’s Tennis Breezes By Belhaven

Titans sweep Blazers, 7-0

GULF SHORES, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team left no doubt in its match against Belhaven University Wednesday morning, March 12, as the Titans (7-9) secured a 7-0 sweep against the Blazers (1-9). With the win, IWU snaps its five-match losing skid, and secures its first win in 2025.

The Titans kicked off the contest with a sweep in doubles play. Sophomores Amber Ehlrich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) picked up the 6-3 win in the top slot. Freshmen Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) and Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) notched the win at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, securing the one-point decision for the Titans.

Senior Andie Wilson (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) and junior Marianna Arias (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) were credited with the win at No. 3 doubles by default.

Illinois Wesleyan stayed hot in singles action, starting off with Ehrlich's sweep at No. 1 singles, as the sophomore took both of her sets, 6-0. Lipske followed with set wins of 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, and Van Heuklon won her sets 6-0, 6-2 in the third individual spot. Bell stayed in sync with her doubles partner, as she also swept both of her sets, 6-0, securing the win at No. 4 singles. Wilson logged a win at No. 5 singles with set scores of 6-1, and Arias closed out the match with a win by default in the final individual spot.

The Green and White will enjoy a day off tomorrow before concluding its spring break trip with a dual against Earlham College Friday, March 14. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m., and results will be posted on iwusports.com upon its completion.
