Men’s Volleyball Welcomes Augustana for Saturday Matinee

Titans battle Vikings at 2 p.m. inside Shirk Center

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team looks to get back in the win column against Augustana College Saturday, March 1, for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest. The Titans (10-7, 0-3 CCIW) host Augie (10-6, 0-2 CCIW) for a 2 p.m. bout inside a busy Shirk Center.

Illinois Wesleyan fell in four sets to CCIW foe North Park University Wednesday night, Feb. 26. Sophomores Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) led the offense with 10 kills, while Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) finished with team-highs of 18 assists and three aces. Freshmen Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) posted a team-high seven blocks, and Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) notched a team-best six digs. 

The Titans offense has been led by Williams' 159 kills. The sophomore is averaging 2.94 kills per set on an attack percentage of .204. Rohlwing is second with 117 kills, hitting .329 on the season. Freshman Ethan Kuziela (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) rounds out the top-three with 104 kills, an average of 2.60 on a .258 clip. 

The duo of Reutter and senior Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) have spearheaded the setting for the majority of the season. Reutter leads the team with 298 assists, averaging 4.81 per set, while DiCosola sits second with 239, an average of 4.12 per set.

Leading the defense, junior Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) holds the team-high in digs, as he has accrued 129 on the season, averaging 2.05 per set. Williams is second with 94, and Reutter closely follows, as he enters Saturday with 93. Rohlwing has been dominant at the net, both offensively and defensively, as he leads the team in blocks with 67. His average of 1.10 blocks per set leads the CCIW and ranks eighth among Division III. Senior Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) is second with 34 rejections, followed by Reutter's 30. 

IWU and Augie will meet for the ninth time, with AC holding a 6-2 advantage in the series. The Titans fell in straight sets in the most recent matchup March 24, 2024. Now-assistant coach Mike Eastman and Williams paced the offense with eight kills apiece, and Williams totaled a team-high seven digs. DiCosola manned the setting duties, finishing with 12 assists.
