Men’s Lacrosse Travels to Benedictine for Midweek Clash

Game time set for 6 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team makes its return to the suburbs to take on Benedictine University, Wednesday, Feb. 26. Game time at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex is slated for a 6 p.m. start in Lisle, Ill. 

IWU is coming off a strong weekend win over Aurora University, as the Titans defeated the Spartans 13-7 Saturday, Feb. 22. Sophomore Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) led the team with four points against the Spartans serving as the Titans key distributor with three assists while snagging a goal of his own. Fifth-year Ike Eastburn (Colorado Springs, Colo.-Cheyenne Mountain) scored a team-leading three goals. 

On the defensive front, senior Nick Horrocks (Boulder, Colo.-Fairview) led the team with four caused turnovers while senior Nick Schroeder (Waunakee, Wis.-Waunakee) scooped up five ground balls while going 8-for-15 at faceoff. Senior goalkeeper Colin Tervo (West Linn, Ore.-West Linn) totaled 19 saves against the Spartans, just two shy of his career-high of 21.

Tervo has totaled 44 saves across three games and averages 14.67 saves per game, a mark that leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and ranks 45th in Division III. Tervo's .620 save percentage sits 34th nationally. Schroeder's .667 faceoff winning percentage also leads the conference while the senior faceoff specialist ranks 33rd nationally. McHugh's 3.67 assists per game average, sits third in the conference but ranks among the top 25 nationally, checking in at No. 22. 

As a team, IWU ranks 12th in assists (29), 17th in points (75), 21st in saves (44) and is 24th in assists per game (9.67), faceoff win percentage (.700), and points per game (25.00).

The Green and White enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-0 record while Benedictine is 0-1 after falling to its neighbor, North Central College, 12-2, on Saturday. IWU is undefeated against the Eagles in its four-game series history with the Titans taking the most recent meeting 24-8 at Tucci Stadium Feb. 28, 2024.
