Men’s Volleyball Hosts No. 5 Carthage for CCIW Contest

Bloomington, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team hosts a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matchup with No. 5 Carthage College Saturday afternoon, Feb 22. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside the Shirk Center. 

The Titans (10-5) look to get their first conference win after falling to 18th-ranked North Central College Tuesday, Feb 18 in straight sets. Sophomore Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) led the team with six kills. Fellow sophomore junior Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) had a team-high eight assists, with senior Vince Dicosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) following suit with seven assists. 

Williams has continued to lead the offense with 143 kills this season, averaging 3.04 kills per set, a mark that ranks fifth in the CCIW, while freshman Gavin Rohlwing (Tower Lake, Ill.-Barrington) is second on the team with 104, and Kuziela sits in third with 92. Reutter holds a team-high 18 aces, followed by Williams with 14, and freshman Ben Zima (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) with 10. 

Defensively, Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) leads the team with 122 digs and 2.18 digs per set to rank fifth in the conference, while Rohlwing headlines the net defense both for the Titans and in the CCIW with 60 blocks on the year and averages 1.11 blocks per set. 

IWU will meet Carthage (9-2) on the court for the ninth time since IWU's program began in 2021, with the Firebirds having won all previous matchups. Most recently, Carthage swept the Titans Mar. 27, 2024. Now-assistant coach Mike Eastman led the offense with 14 kills, while Reutter led the team with 17 assists, and Williams had the team lead eight digs. Carthage comes to Bloomington after sweeping Benedictine University Friday, Feb. 14.
