BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Coming off a 2-0 start to the season at the Music City Classic, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team turns its attention to Aurora University as the Titans and Spartans square off in a Saturday matinee, Feb. 22. The IWU men's 2 p.m. game will serve as the second half of a doubleheader with the Titan women's team at Spartan Athletic Park in Montgomery, Ill.

The Green and White return from Nashville, Tenn. boasting a 2-0 start to the season after defeating former College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin associate member, Transylvania Univeristy, 16-10, Saturday, Feb. 15 before also taking down Centre College, 17-10, on Sunday.

Saturday's win over Transylvania saw eight Titans get in on the scoring action including first collegiate goals for freshmen Carlo Adams (Knoxville, Tenn.-West) in his home state, and Jeremy Langosch (Grayslake, Ill.-Warren Township). Senior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) had a career-high three caused turnovers against the Pioneers to lead the Titans defensively.

Sunday's contest with the Colonels featured five Titan goal-scorers with sophomore Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) orchestrating the Green and White offense with a career-high five assists and two goals of his own in the win. Junior Karsten Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah Community) was a force on the defensive side, sharing the team lead of seven ground balls with senior Nick Schroeder (Waunakee, Wis.-Waunakee), a career-high for Nordlie who also led the team with a career-high two caused miscues.

Leading the Titans overall in the opening weekend was fifth-year Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) with 12 points off nine goals and three assists. He was followed closely by McHugh with 11 points after leading the team with eight assists to go along with three goals. Schroeder totaled 13 ground balls while going 28-for-39 in the center circle for a .718 faceoff percentage. Illinois Wesleyan will meet Aurora for the 14th time since 2015 with IWU holding a 9-4 advantage in the series history. Most recently, the Titans have won the last eight meetings, including a sweep of the Spartans last season. The Green and White defeated AU 24-15, March 2, 2024, before hosting the Spartans in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, May 8, 2024,  where IWU came away with a slim 14-10 win to advance to the second round of the national tournament.
