BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University Athletic Director Mike Wagner announced the addition of men's bowling as the department's 30th intercollegiate athletic program Thursday, Oct. 30. The program, which will begin competition in the 2026-27 academic year, will be led by Bob Baker

Men's bowling is the eighth sport added to Illinois Wesleyan's offerings under the direction of Wagner. Men's volleyball and women's bowling were added in 2019, while men's wrestling was reinstated alongside the addition of women's wrestling in 2022. More recently, cheer and dance were brought under the athletic department umbrella when flag football was introduced early this calendar year.

"I am excited to add men's bowling under the guidance of Bob Baker," Wagner added. "The sport allows us to continue to meet the needs and desires of future Titans. Bob's experience and accomplishments in the sport make him the right choice to get our program established and lead us to success on the lanes, in the classroom, and in the community."
"It is an honor to be selected as the inaugural head coach of the Titan men's bowling team at Illinois Wesleyan University," Baker said. "Bowling has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I am excited for the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge with the Titan bowlers. My goal is not only to build a competitive men's bowling program, but to establish a lasting tradition - one that future Titan bowlers will be proud to carry forward."
Baker holds a career-high average of 236 and has over 70 300-games to his name. He has more than 30 800 series under his belt and was twice named the River City Men's Bowler of the Year.
He coached the Morton High School bowling team in its inaugural season (2022-23) and has nearly five decades worth of experience in the sport overall. He is a Storm/Roto Grip/Global 900 staffer and has been since 2022, while he also serves as a Turbo 2 in 1 Grips staffer. Baker is a YABA certified coach and was a junior member of Team USA.

Baker will begin his role immediately, as he looks to build a roster. The program will begin competition during the 2026-27 academic year. Those interested in bowling for the Titans should fill out a recruit questionnaire here or email Baker directly at rbaker2@iwu.edu.
