Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Concordia Chicago

Titans pick up fifth win of season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Taking on Concordia University Chicago in a non-conference contest Monday, Sept. 30, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team cruised past the Cougars (2-6), 7-0, to claim its fifth win of the season. With the victory, IWU improves to 5-2 on the season.

The Titans kicked off the match with a sweep in doubles to earn the one-point decision. The freshmen duo of Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) and Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) notched the win in the top spot, 6-2. Sophomore Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) paired up with senior Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington), securing a 6-0 decision at No. 2 doubles. Playing in the No. 3 doubles slot, sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) and freshman Angela Zatloka (Justice, Ill.-Argo Community) closed out paired play with a 6-3 victory.

Holding down the top individual spot, sophomore Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) notched her sixth win of the season at No. 1 singles. Ehrlich picked up the win behind set scores of 6-0, 6-1. Lipske collected the win in the No. 2 singles spot, blanking her CUC opponent, 6-0, in both sets. Van Heuklon took the No. 3 singles match, winning her sets 6-2, 6-4. Christian claimed her second win of the night, as she defeated her Cougars opponent 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Edwards took the No. 5 singles match behind set scores of 6-2, 6-3, and Zatloka closed out the contest with the win at No. 6 individuals, taking her sets 6-0, 6-3.

Illinois Wesleyan returns its attention back to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action this weekend. The Titans will take a road trip to Carthage College Saturday, Oct. 5, at 12 p.m., before heading to Carroll University for a 10 a.m. bout Sunday, Oct. 6.
