Women’s Tennis Welcomes Concordia Chicago

Titans host Cougars for non-conference bout

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team welcomes Concordia University Chicago for a non-conference matchup Monday, Sept. 30. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club. 

Illinois Wesleyan (4-2) enters the match after a weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional. Sophomores Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) represented IWU, marking the first Titans to play in the tournament since 2016. 

The last dual match the Titans participated in resulted in a 7-0 victory at Elmhurst University. This win made it three in a row for the Titans and improved their all-time record to 27-8 against EU. Freshman Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) picked up her first collegiate win at No. 3 singles, winning her sets 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) notched a win at No. 5 singles after going the distance and securing a win in the tie-breaker set. Freshman Angela Zatloka (Justice, Ill.-Argo Community) defeated her opponent in two sets at No. 6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0. IWU won every doubles competition and secured the point. 

The Titans will meet CUC (2-5) for the second time in two years. The first meeting between the two teams resulted in a 7-2 victory for the Titans Sept. 8, 2023. The Cougars are still looking for their first non-conference win this season, most recently falling to St. Mary's College, 7-0, Sunday, Sept. 22.
