Women’s Tennis Blows by Big Blue

Titans pick up first CCIW win of season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team downed College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Millikin University, Wednesday, Sept. 18. The Titans blew past the Big Blue, 6-1, to pick up their first CCIW win of the season, improving to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in conference action, while MU moved to 0-6 overall, 0-3 in league play.

IWU took the point for doubles play, aided by wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Senior Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) and freshman Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) notched the win at No. 2 doubles, claiming the victory with a score of 7-5. The Green and White claimed the one point decision at doubles behind a forfeit at No. 3.

In individual action, Illinois Wesleyan saw wins in five spots. Sophomore Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) picked up the win at No. 2 singles, winning her sets 6-4, 6-2. Lipske and Christian followed up their win in paired play with wins at No. 2 and 4 singles, respectively. Lipske took her sets 6-1, 6-2, while Christian defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) and freshman Angela Zatloka (Justice, Ill.-Argo Community) were awarded victories by forfeit at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

The Titans return to action Monday, Sept. 23, traveling to Elmhurst University for a CCIW clash. Action is set to begin at 4:15 p.m. at Lester Brune Tennis Courts.
