BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Looking to begin its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schedule, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team welcomes Augustana College and North Park University to Evergreen Racquet Club Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14. IWU (2-0) will begin by facing Augie (0-1, 0-1 CCIW) Friday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m., before hosting North Park (2-0) Saturday, Sept. 14, with a 9:30 a.m. start.
The Green and White opened the 2024-25 season with two straight wins for the second year in a row. Illinois Wesleyan most recently defeated Illinois College, 5-2, Tuesday night, Sept. 10. The contest saw freshman Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein), sophomores
Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and
Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), and senior
Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) each collect two wins. Ehrlich and Bell notched the victory at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, before picking up wins at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively. Ehrlich picked up the win behind set scores of 6-1, 6-0, while Bell won 6-4, 6-1. Lipske claimed the victory alongside Christian at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-2. The freshman went on to notch her first collegiate individual victory with set score wins of 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles spot. Playing at No. 4 singles, Christian won 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.
Friday's match will be the 34th meeting between IWU and Augustana. The Vikings own a 23-10 advantage in the series that dates back to 1989. Illinois Wesleyan dropped the most recent contest, 8-1, Sept. 16, 2023. Augie enters the contest off a loss to Wheaton College Saturday, Sept. 7.
IWU and NPU will meet on the courts for the 24th time since 1989, with the Titans holding the upperhand in the series, 20-3. North Park won the battle last season, 9-0, Sept. 22, 2023. The Vikings, who are coming off a CCIW Tournament runner-up finish a season ago, most recently downed Carroll University, 7-0, Thursday, Sept 5.
