JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Taking its first road trip of the 2024-25 season, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team downed Illinois College, 5-2, Tuesday, Sept. 10. With the win, IWU improves to 2-0 for the second straight season, while IC dips to 5-2.
For the second straight match, the Titans kicked off the contest by taking the doubles portion to pick up the first point of the match. The sophomore pair of Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) notched the win at No. 1 doubles, blowing by IC's top duo, 6-2. Senior Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) and freshman Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) collected the win at No. 2 doubles, 6-2.
Ehrlich rolled to a victory at No. 1 singles, taking her sets 6-1, 6-0. Lipske recorded her first collegiate singles victory with a 6-2, 6-1, win in the No. 2 slot, while Bell notched the win at No. 3 singles with set scores of 6-4, 6-1. Christian edged past IC at No. 4 singles to secure the 5-2 victory. Christian opened her singles contest with a 6-3 first set victory, before falling to a flipped score in set two. The Washington, Ill. native squeaked out the win with a 10-7 tiebreaker in the final set.
IWU returns to action Friday, Sept. 13 for a 4 p.m. contest against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Augustana College. The Titans and Vikings (0-1, 0-1 CCIW) will face off at Evergreen Racquet Club.
