Softball Readies to Host CCIW Tournament at Inspiration Field

Three-day tournament scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the second straight year, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Tournament will be held at Inspiration Field as the No. 1 seed Illinois Wesleyan University softball team plays host to the six-team tournament Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11. The tournament will feature four games Thursday, May 9, beginning at noon, three games Friday, May 10, while the championship is slated for a 12 p.m. first pitch Saturday, May 11.

Illinois Wesleyan's tournament begins with a 4 p.m. game Thursday evening. The Titans will face the winner of the first game of the weekend between fourth-seeded Millikin and fifth-seeded Carthage. The winner of the bout between No. 3 seed North Central and No. 6 seed North Park will advance to the 6 p.m. tilt against second-seeded Augustana.

The Titans carry a 27-10 overall record and won the CCIW Regular Season outright with a 13-3 mark. IWU most recently split a doubleheader at Augustana, May 4, grabbing a 4-2 game one victory to secure the conference title.

Illinois Wesleyan is led by four Titans with batting averages north of .400. Freshman Hailey Milgazo (Poway, Calif.-Poway) paces the team with a .467 batting average, while also topping the team with 57 hits and 19 stolen bases. Junior Jen Kuhn (Normal, Ill.-University High) bests the team with 43 RBIs, the sixth-most in single-season history, while boasting a team-high .734 slugging percentage and a .514 on-base percentage. Sophomores Anna Beckman (Bourbonnais, Ill.-Bishop McNamara) and Casey Wissmiller (Bloomington, Ill.-Olympia) have compiled averages of .417 and .414, respectively. Beckman is second on the team with 14 stolen bases and bests the team with 43 runs scored, while Wissmiller has a team-high six homeruns and 10 doubles.

Sophomore Gianna Certa (Third Lake, Ill.-Grayslake North) headlines the pitching staff, leading the team with a 1.34 earned run average over 18 appearances. She has thrown 16 complete games, with seven shutouts, and has compiled a 15-2 record while limiting opponents to a .214 batting average.

The tournament begins at noon Thursday, May 11, with the Titans set to battle in the third game of the day. Ticket prices for each day are as follows, $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, students, and children ages 6-14. Children ages five and under are free.
