Shamhart named to second team, Perona earns third team honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) and senior Louis Perona (Chicago, Ill.-Lane Tech) of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team earned All-Region 8 honors Tuesday, May 28. Shamhart was named to the All-Region 8 Second Team by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association while Perona was named to the ABCA All-Region 8 Third Team.

A First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection, Shamhart ranked fourth in the conference in ERA sitting behind teammates Dalen Banks and Will Davidsmeier as well as Caleb Burhle from Millikin, who was named the D3baseball.com Region 8 Pitcher of the Year. Shamhart compiled a perfect 8-0 record this season appearing in 12 games and starting in 11. The Oak Park, Ill. native pitched for 63.2 innings and kept his opponents' batting average to .267, while tallying 67 strikeouts on the season, good for a team-high.

A Second Team All-CCIW selection, Perona is no stranger to All-Region honors as he received Second Team distinction last year on both D3Baseball.com and ABCA. Perona has shown impressive numbers yet again on the field as the Titans' starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. The Chicago, Ill. native sat at a notable .368 hitting percentage. The senior finished the season with 136 at-bats, 37 runs, 50 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 11 RBIs.

Shamhart was one of 15 CCIW players from seven schools selected by D3baseball.com, while Perona and Shamhart are two of 12 conference players from seven schools to receive the honor from the ABCA. Millikin University and North Park University led the way with four on each list, respectively.
