SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team completed its 2024 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday, May 11, with a 27-9 loss to sixth-ranked Tufts University at Frank Bailey Field. With the setback, IWU's season comes to a close with a 13-4 overall record. Tufts advances to tomorrow's third round game against the winner of the Union-Stevenson bout.

A three-goal spurt took just 45 seconds as the Jumbos jumped out to a 3-0 lead to force a Titan timeout with 12:41 to play in the first quarter.

Tufts tacked on another out of the reset before carrying a 11-1 lead into the second period. IWU's goal came by way of an assist from freshman Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) to junior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest)

Junior Colin Tervo (West Linn, Ore.-West Linn) finished with six saves on the day, while senior Alex Oximana (Seattle, Wash-Bishop Blanchet) made nine in between the posts in the second half. Weinberg led the Green and White with four points all by way of goals, while McHugh and senior Ike Eastburn (Colorado Springs, Colo.-Cheyenne Mountain) each contributed three points. McHugh tallied one goal and two assists, while Eastburn finished with a hat trick.

McHugh also led the team in ground balls, as the freshman finished with six. Senior Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) and junior Sam Skelton (Portland, Ore.-Franklin) added five apiece. Junior John Kittoe (Waunakee, Wis.-Waunakee) led the defense with a career-best three caused turnovers, while three Titans caused two each.

Illinois Wesleyan concludes the season with a 13-4 record. The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular season and tournament champions are slated to return several key pieces in 2025, while the loss marked the end of the career for eight Titans.
