Women’s Tennis Eliminates Elmhurst to Advance to CCIW Tournament Quarterfinals

Titans will face top-seed North Central Thursday, April 25

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Needing a win to advance to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament that it is hosting, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team eliminated Elmhurst University in a play-in match Sunday, April 14, winning 9-0 on its home court. The win advances the Titans to the CCIW Tournament Quarterfinals to face top-seed North Central College Thursday, April 25. Illinois Wesleyan is the host of the three-day tournament, holding it at Evergreen Racquet Club Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27. 

The Green and White (7-10) took care of business in doubles play to secure an early win to enter singles action. The freshmen duo of Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) swept their match, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) and Raji More (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) picked up the win at No. 2 doubles, claiming an 8-4 victory. 

Ehrlich, Bell, and Christian stayed hot in singles action, as all three claimed their second victory of the day. In the top singles spot, Ehrlich took her sets 6-1, 6-3, while Bell posted set scores of 6-2, 6-0 to secure the victory at No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 individuals spot, Christian made quick work in her sets, winning 6-1, 6-0. 

Honored prior to the match for senior day, Macy Michorczyk (Franklin Park, Ill.-West Leyden) picked up a gritty win at No. 4 singles to capitalize on her day. The lone senior on the young Titan squad won her first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (4), but fell 6-0 in the second, forcing the match to be decided in a super tiebreaker. Michorczyk pulled through, winning 12-10 to claim the victory. 

The win marks the seventh for IWU this season, the most wins since posting eight in the 2012-13 campaign. Illinois Wesleyan will advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2020-21 campaign.
