Men’s Lacrosse Heads North for Bout with Carthage

Saturday’s matinee set for 1 p.m. in Kenosha, Wis.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team will take on Carthage College for another round of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday, April 13 in Kenosha, Wis. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Art Kellar Field. 

Illinois Wesleyan is on a six-game winning streak after defeating CCIW foe, North Central College 16-10 on the road Wednesday, April 10. Junior Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) notched career highs in goals (4) and points (4), tying with senior Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) and freshman Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel) with a team-high four points. Junior goalkeeper Colin Tervo (West Linn, Ore.-West Linn) had a career evening between the posts, snagging 21 saves.

With three games left to play in the regular season, IWU leads the CCIW in eight of the 12 offensive statistical categories. Most notable are goals per game (16.73) as the Titans have scored over 30 more points than the next closest competitor this season. IWU also holds the top per-game average for points (26.45), assists (9.73), man-down goals (.45), man-up goals (2.82), man-up scoring (.449), shots (56.36) and shots on goal (32.91). The Green and White possess an effective defensive front, leading the conference in both caused turnovers (12.00) and ground balls (43.00) per game. McHugh, the freshman from Orland Park, Ill., boasts the top average in the conference for assists per game with 2.44.

Carthage, who holds residence in the middle of the pack for nearly all offensive categories in the league, will face the ruckus that is IWU men's lacrosse on Saturday for the 13th time since their inaugural meeting in 2014. Carthage was victorious in the first five games of the series but since then, IWU has been on an eight-game win streak over the Firebirds. IWU and Carthage squared off twice during the 2023 season, the first being April 29 in the regular season where the Titans narrowly got away with a 19-18 victory before shutting down the Firebirds 15-9 in the CCIW Tournament Semifinal.
