Men’s Volleyball Travels to 10th-Ranked Carthage

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team will head to Kenosha, Wis., to take on 10th-ranked Carthage College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Saturday showdown Saturday, March 9. Action is set to begin at 3 p.m. inside Tarble Arena. 

IWU (10-8, 1-2 CCIW) enters Saturday off a four-set loss to CCIW foe Augustana College Wednesday night, March 6. Junior Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) finished with a team-high 17 assists to eclipse the 1000 career assist mark, becoming the first Titan in program history to do so. Freshman Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) posted a team-high nine kills in the contest.

The Titan offense has seen senior Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) record a team-best 178 kills on a .263 attack percentage, averaging 3.18 kills per set. Williams is second with 131 kills, and junior Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) sits third with 91. Eastman's 22 aces are the most by a Titan this year, while Kougan and senior Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) follow with 15 and 13, respectively. 

DiCosola and freshman Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) have orchestrated the majority of the attack all season. DiCosola has accumulated 276 assists for an average of 5.02 per set, followed by Reutter's 239 on a 4.69 assists per set average. 

Sophomore Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) leads the Green and White with 162 digs, averaging 2.61 per set, both of which rank second in the CCIW. Eastman's 96 digs are the second-most, and DiCosola and Williams are tied for third with 70 apiece. 

Illinois Wesleyan will meet the Firebirds for the seventh time in program history. Carthage has come out victorious in all previous meetings, including the most recent in three sets March 25, 2023. The Firebirds enter Saturday with an 8-5 overall record, 1-1 in CCIW action, and most recently defeated then-No. 8 North Central College in five sets Wednesday, Feb. 28.
