Men’s Volleyball Falls to Augie on Senior Day

Eastman becomes first in program history to eclipse 1000 points

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Celebrating its first ever senior class, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team fell in three sets to Augustana College Sunday, March 24. With the loss, the Titans dip to 10-12 overall and 1-6 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action, while Augie ups its record to 17-4 (4-3 CCIW).

The Titans honored nine seniors, Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township), Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius), Blake McGlashan-Bryant (Hawthorne, Calif.-Mira Costa), KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic), Adam Blackmore (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva), Michael Anderson (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield Central), Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), Alec Mucha (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva), Javier Romano (Prospect Heights, Ill.-Wheeling), along with Vic Gomez, who was a three-year member of the team that graduated early in December, prior to the start of the match.

Eastman became the first Titan in program history to eclipse 1000 points in a career. He achieved the milestone on a kill in the second set.

Illinois Wesleyan could not get past the hot-hitting Viking offense, who finished with a .390 attack percentage, while limiting IWU to a .071 showing. Augie saw advantages in kills (40-27), assists (35-27), digs (39-30), blocks (6-1), and aces (5-3).

Eastman and freshman Bryce Williams (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) led the Titans with eight kills apiece, while Mucha and junior Ryan Myers (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Stevenson) each added four. Junior Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) finished with a team-high 12 assists, followed by Benson and freshman Brenden Reutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East), who each chipped in six.

On the defensive end, Williams finished with a team-best seven digs. Eastman's five were the second-most on the squad, and sophomore Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) posted four.

The Titans return to action Wednesday night, March 27, for their home finale against 10th-ranked Carthage College for a CCIW clash. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Shirk Center.
