Game set for 7 p.m. at Holmgren Athletic Complex

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – After penalty kicks decided a double overtime quarterfinal, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team continues its trek in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament as the sixth-seeded Titans (9-4-4) face No. 2 seed North Park University Wednesday, Nov. 6. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Holmgren Athletic Complex.

In a similar fashion to their tournament run a season ago, the Titans saw their fate rely on PKs as the Green and White tied with Carroll University at the end of regulation in its CCIW Quarterfinal match, Saturday, Nov. 2. Freshman Ben Lyons (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) was the only Titan to land the ball in the back of the net early in the second half. The lead only lasted so long as the Pioneers scored nearly 10 minutes later. After two, five-minute overtimes and no goals, the teams went into penalty kicks to determine who would advance to the semifinals. After several rounds, the Titans claimed the semifinal slot with a 4-3 score in PKs.

The Vikings (12-1-5) played in their last regular season game Wednesday, Oct. 30 against CCIW foe Carthage College ending the game in a 1-1 tie. As the No. 2 seed, NPU did not have to play in the quarterfinals and will make its 2024 CCIW Tournament debut in Wednesday's semifinal.

The Titans and Vikings met earlier in the regular season in Chicago, where North Park took the 2-nil win over Illinois Wesleyan Saturday, Oct. 12.

IWU and NPU have a lengthy history dating back to the 1988 season. The Titans are now  9-28-3 to the Vikings and are looking to secure their 10th win of the season and a ticket to the CCIW Championship match.

The winner of Wednesday night's semifinal match will advance to the CCIW Championship, Saturday, Nov. 9, and will face the winner of the No. 1 Wheaton vs No. 5 North Central matchup.
