BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a quick break from College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team will resume league play, as the Titans (5-2, 2-2 CCIW) travel to Carthage College and Carroll University Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 5-6. IWU will face the Firebirds (2-3, 2-3 CCIW) at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, before taking on the Pioneers (2-5, 1-4 CCIW) Sunday, Oct. 6, with a 10 a.m. start.

The Green and White enter off a 7-0 sweep of Concordia University Chicago Monday, Sept. 30. IWU kicked off the match by sweeping doubles play to earn the one point decision. The freshmen duo of Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) and Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) notched the win in the top spot, 6-2. Sophomore Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) paired up with senior Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington), securing a 6-0 decision at No. 2 doubles. Playing in the No. 3 doubles slot, sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) and freshman Angela Zatloka (Justice, Ill.-Argo Community) closed out paired play with a 6-3 victory.

Van Heuklon, Lipske, Edwards, and Zatloka all went on to win their singles matches. Holding down the top individual spot, sophomore Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) notched her sixth win of the season at No. 1 singles. Ehrlich picked up the win behind set scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Illinois Wesleyan will face Carthage for the 37th time, with CC holding a 38-8 lead in the series that dates back to 1989. The Firebirds most recently defeated the Titan 6-3 Oct. 7, 2023. After coming up just short in doubles action, dropping No. 1 pairs 8-7 (4), Ehrlich and Bell came back to take No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Ehrlich took both sets, 6-1, while Bell edged out her battle, winning with set scores 3-6, 6-0 (10-7). Christian picked up the victory at No. 2 singles, also using all three sets to do so, scraping past her Firebird opponent, 0-6, 6-3 (10-8). Carthage enters Saturday's contest off a 7-0 loss to North Park University Wednesday, Sept. 25.

The Titans will conclude their trip in Waukesha, Wis., taking on the Pios for just the 13th time since the two first met in 1989. IWU trails 7-5 in the series all-time, and fell 7-2 in the last meeting Oct. 8, 2023. The contest saw Ehrlich continue her dominant performance in singles action, as she picked up her fifth straight win at No. 1 singles. Ehrlich notched the win with set scores of 6-0, 6-2, closing out a perfect 4-0 week in singles action. Also picking up a win in the singles portion of the match was Benn, who battled back after dropping her opening set, 6-4. The Bloomington, Ill., native came back to take the second set, 6-4, before winning the tiebreaker 10-4.
