Men’s Soccer Set for Wednesday Clash with Cardinals

Game is set for 7 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a 1-0-1 week, the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team competes in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest with the Cardinals from North Central College, Wednesday, Oct. 23. Game time is set for 7 p.m. under the lights on Neis Field. 

IWU goes into Wednesday's competition with a 9-1-3 overall record and is 3-1-1 in league play. The Titans currently sit fourth in the conference. Wheaton leads the league, with Carroll trailing in second and North Park sits in third. All three teams solidified their stake in the conference tournament set to begin Nov. 2.

Illinois Wesleyan finished last week 1-0-1, taking on two conference foes, Augustana and Elmhurst. The Titans claimed a win over AC Wednesday, Oct. 16 with a goal from senior Mush Bakirdan (Morton, Ill.-Morton) to claim a 1-nil win. Most recently, IWU took on the Bluejays of Elmhurst University and ended the game in a 1-1 tie. Sophomore Joey Rodino (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) secured the tie on a late-game penalty kick. 

NCC is 6-4-4 on the season with a 2-2-1 conference record. In the Cardinals' last match, NCC took a 1-nil win over Carthage Saturday, Oct. 19. North Central currently sits sixth in the conference standings. 

In the overall history, the Cardinals take the series record of 20-14-5 over the Titans, dating back to 1986. In the last meeting between the two, North Central dominated the game, 5-1, Oct. 21, 2023. 

Junior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) currently sits at 27th across the country for goalies with a save percentage of .852. In conference, Kedzior ranks second in goals against average (.709), save percentage (.852), and shutouts (7).
