Swim & Dive Concludes Season Opener at Lewis

Titans turn in 10 third-place finishes

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2024-25 campaign with a dual against Division II Lewis University, Friday, Oct. 18. Both teams fell to the Flyers with the women's score finishing at 166-41 and the men at 164-33. 


Between the men's and women's teams, the Green and White turned in 10 third-place finishes, the highest placing in any event for the Titans on the evening. 

The mixed 200 yard medley relay of freshman Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West), junior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora), freshman Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leydens) and senior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) clocked a 1:50.60 to finish third. Jenkins also turned in a third place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, clocking a 22.70. 

Cano turned in a 26.68 second effort in the 50 yard freestyle to finish third before replicating that placing in the 100 yard butterfly after clocking a 1:05.92. Marks also finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a 1:00.13 effort.

Racing two events in the backstroke specialty, junior Kayliegh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) turned in her highest placings of the night finishing third in both the 100 (1:04.72) and 200 yard backstroke (2:21.01).

Fifth-year Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) had a 55.48 second effort in the 100 yard butterfly while freshman Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) raced a 2:12.53 in the 200 yard butterfly as both finished third in their events. Freshman Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) also finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.60. 

IWU will host its first home meet of the season with the Halloween Invite Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. in Fort Natatorium.
