Women’s Tennis Drops Battle with North Central

Concludes Fall competition schedule

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Just one day removed from its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin bout with Wheaton, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team took on another CCIW foe in North Central College Saturday, Oct. 12. The Titans were downed 7-0 to the Cardinals as IWU slips to 6-6 and 2-6 in CCIW play while NCC climbs to 5-1 all in league action. 

Doubles action kicked off the morning's competition as sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) and freshman Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) picked up the Titans first win of the day at No. 3 doubles. The pair defeated North Central's Kate Herlihy and Kayla McSweeney 6-2 to start the day for IWU. 

Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Christian) and Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) battled at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell 7-5. Also playing at No. 5 singles, Christian managed to take the first set 6-4, but it was Herlihy from NCC who finished off the match taking set two 6-3 before winning the tie breaker, 10-4. 

Today's match concludes Illinois Wesleyan's fall schedule as the Titans will be back in action March 2nd when they host Cornell College.
