Women’s Tennis Travels to Wheaton & NCC to Conclude CCIW Action

Titans will face Thunder Friday, Oct. 11, before traveling to North Central Saturday, Oct. 12

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team prepares to travel up north this weekend to take on Wheaton College and North Central College for a pair of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matches Friday-Saturday, Oct. 11-12. The Titans (6-4, 2-4 CCIW) will face the Thunder (6-2, 5-1 CCIW) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, before taking on the Cardinals (4-1, 4-1 CCIW) at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. 

IWU is coming off a 6-1 victory against Monmouth College Tuesday, Oct. 8. Sophomore Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) defeated her opponent at No. 6 singles with a commanding score of 6-2, 6-0. The duo of Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington) and Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) continued to dominate as they defeated their opponent with a 6-0 decision at No. 2 doubles. 

Illinois Wesleyan will face Wheaton for the 38th time, with the Thunder holding a 36-1 record against the Titans in a series that dates back to 1989. IWU has not won a match against Wheaton since 1994. The Green and White is looking to break the 33-game losing skid this Friday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. and give Wheaton its first loss at home in the matchup. 

The Titans complete their trip by taking on the Cardinals for the 36th time since the two first met in 1989. IWU leads the series 23-12, but has dropped the previous eight matches to the Cardinals. Coming into the matchup, North Central enters off a loss to Wheaton, 4-3. Illinois Wesleyan will be looking for its first CCIW win in the month of October this weekend.
