Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Concordia Chicago

Titans open 2023-24 season with 7-2 victory

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team opened its 2023-24 season with a 7-2 victory at Concordia University Chicago Friday night, Sept. 8.

Illinois Wesleyan collected wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles behind the play of a trio of freshmen. Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) teammed up for a 8-3 victory at No. 1, while sophomore Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) and Carly Edwards (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) grabbed an 8-5 win at No. 2.

The momentum carried into singles, where the Titans recorded wins at No. 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. Ehrlich cracked things open with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1, picking up her first collegiate individual win. Christian handled No. 2 with 6-4, 6-3 set scores, and Bell secured her first solo win, using a full three sets to take the No. 3 spot, 1-6, 6-4 (10-8). Junior Andie Wilson (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) notched the win at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 6-2 (12-10), while senior Macy Michorczyk (Franklin Park, Ill.-West Leyden) closed out the contest with set scores of 5-7, 6-1 (10-2), securing her first individual victory.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action Monday, Sept. 11, as the Green and White will host Illinois College for its home opener. First serve will be at 4 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
