Women’s Tennis Edges Past Illinois College

Titans open season 2-0 for first time since 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team edged past Illinois College Monday, Sept. 11, with a 5-4 victory in its home opener. With the win, the Titans open the season 2-0 for the first time since 2011. 

The freshmen duo of Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) kicked off the match with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Raji More (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) notched the victory at No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-4. 

In singles play, Ehrlich stayed hot, winning at No. 1 with set scores 6-1, 6-4. Christian won her sets 7-5, 6-0, to notch the win at No. 2. Bell sealed the victory for the Green and White, taking her match the full distance, winning the sets 7-6 (8), 1-6 (10-8) at No. 3 singles. 

Illinois Wesleyan stays at home, hosting North Central College Wednesday, Sept. 13, for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
