BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With final exams complete, the Illinois Wesleyan University softball team will take a break from conference play Wednesday, May 3, with a trip to beautiful Greencastle, Ind. for a non-conference double dip with DePauw University. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET.
Illinois Wesleyan makes the 154-mile trip boasting a 22-13 overall record. The Titans most recently defeated North Park, 10-4, April 30. DePauw is 15-18 on the year, but has found its stride in league play winning 10 of its last 12. The Titans and Tigers are no strangers, having met 32 times previously, including once in Bloomington earlier this season. The Green and White holds an 18-14 lead in the all-time tally, but DePauw has won five of the last six bouts. IWU snapped its five-game skid against DU earlier this season, taking down the Tigers 9-8 in extra innings.
Senior Madison Moore (Verona, Wis.-Edgewood), sophomores
Ava Khoury (Columbia, Ill.-Columbia) and
Jen Kuhn (Normal, Ill.-University High), and junior
Bailey Turner (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) pace the Titan offense. Moore tops the team with a .381 batting average, while also leading the Green and White in hits (43), doubles (9), triples (3), stolen bases (16), walks (14), and on-base percentage (14). Khoury has brought the power, as evidenced by her team-high 36 RBIs and 14 home runs. She is hitting .348 on the season, while Kuhn boasts a .330 clip and Turner a .313 mark.
Eating up a majority of the innings in the circle this season have been seniors Nina Mardjetko (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont) and
Natalie Grubczak (Medinah, Ill.-Lake Park). Mardjetko topps the team with 83 strikeouts over 118.2 innings of work, while Grubczak is second in both categories. Mardjetko has a team-high 12 wins on the season, followed by Grubczak's eight. Freshman
Caroline Gatchell (Grayslake, Ill.-Carmel Catholic) and
Gianna Certa (Third Lake, Ill.-Grayslake North) round out the pitching staff and have seen an increase in innings over the past few weeks. Gatchell has fanned 16 over 15.2 innings, while Certa leads the team with two saves.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET Wednesday, May 3. Both games can be followed via live stats or live stream through links available on the softball schedule page on iwusports.com.
