Men’s Volleyball Concludes Season with Loss to No. 15 Loras

Titans finish with a record of 11-14, 2-8 in the CCIW

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team fell to Loras College in four sets Saturday, April 8, with set scores 25-15, 25-21, 24-26, 25-17. The Titans conclude their third season of action with an 11-14 overall record, 2-8 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. 

The match saw the Titans secure their first set victory against the Duhawks (18-5, 6-4 CCIW). Loras held a statistical advantage in kills (52-40), assists (47-39), and blocks (8-4) while hitting .328 in the match. IWU saw an advantage in digs (49-44), while each team recorded three aces, but was limited to a slim .098 attack percentage. 

The Titan offense was led by sophomore Ryan Myers (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Stevenson), who recorded 13 kills. Sophomore Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) along with juniors Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and Javier Romano (Prospect Heights, Ill.-Wheeling) notched six kills apiece. Sophomore Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) tied his career-best 34 assists, as he orchestrated the offense. 

Junior Blake McGlashan-Bryant (Hawthorne, Calif.-Mira Costa) posted a career-high 11 digs, as the libero was all over the court. Junior Adam Blackmore (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) and DiCosola each accumulated eight. Romano led the net defense with three total blocks, two of which were solo rejections. 

Illinois Wesleyan concludes its third season with 11 wins, the most in program history and the first time the Titans cracked double-digit wins. All 20 players on Head Coach Brandon Mueller's roster are set to return for the 2024 season.
